Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology tape is a sturdy, stretchy tape usually made with a blend of cotton and nylon. It serves several purposes in physical therapy such as:

         - Facilitating Muscle Function: Kinesiology tape helps facilitate muscle function by providing gentle support. It allows movement while stabilizing joints and preventing improper muscle contraction.

         - Reducing Pain and Swelling: When applied correctly, kinesiology tape can decrease pain, alleviate swelling, and reduce muscle spasms. It achieves this by lifting the superficial layers of skin, creating space between the skin, fascia, and underlying tissues.

         - Improving Circulation: By promoting better circulation and lymphatic drainage, kinesiology tape contributes to faster healing. It gently lifts the skin, allowing fluids to flow more efficiently.

         - Enhancing Proprioception: Kinesiology tape stimulates mechanoreceptors in the skin, muscles, and joints. This sensory feedback helps improve proprioception, which is essential for coordinated movement.

Remember, your physical therapist will apply kinesiology tape strategically based on your specific needs and condition. It's a valuable tool to support your rehabilitation journey!
